How it works:

FAQs
Why start with a consultation?
Our free consultation is the first step in creating portraits that feel personal and true to your pet. We'll talk about who’s being photographed, what gets those ears perked, and what kind of images you want to create. We’ll go over backdrop or location options, colors, and artwork ideas. You're welcome to bring your pet to the consultation — it's a great way to help them feel comfortable in the studio and see how they do with the lights before the big day. Your session time is scheduled at the consultation.
What should I bring to the photo session?
Two items will help the photography session run smoothly. The first is treats! We have treats and toys, but if there is something special your dog(s) like or they have a special diet, please bring that with you. (Please keep your treats put away, though, until we need them.) The second is a friendly face. To help your pet feel comfortable, we want to keep the stress level low. If you are feeling stressed, your pet will as well.
How can I best prepare for the session?
Work with your pup(s) on some basic obedience - sit, down, stay, etc. Knowing some of these skills will give him confidence and allow us to photograph him off leash and free! That said, we work with all personality types — even the wild ones!
Can any pet take part?
Absolutely! All pets, big and small, are welcome to take part in your photo session. During your free consultation at our Minneapolis studio, we'll discuss who is going to be photographed, their personalities, any concerns, etc. Your pet is welcome to come to the consultation - this will give her a chance to get comfortable in the studio. Plus, we can test her with the studio lights to be sure she is comfortable in that environment.
Does my pet need to be trained for the session?
Nope! We often work with rescue animals that have limited knowledge (if any) of basic commands. Sure, knowing basic commands such as sit, come and down are helpful, but they aren’t required. We will allow your pup to be himself and will capture that personality as it happens.
Will my dog be on a leash in the photos?
Typically in the studio pets are off leash. On location, for safety, pets are on leash. But don’t worry - we’ll remove it in the final image so it looks like your dog was freely exploring. (We avoid harnesses when possible because they’re harder to edit out.)
Can I be included in the photos with my pet?
Absolutely! Your connection with your pet is part of the story. For portraits, we recommend solid clothing in neutral tones (especially colors that hide pet hair). Skip the white — it can compete with your pet in the photo.
